I love a good donut. I also love dark chocolate and crave it from time to time. So I thought, why not combine the two and make some delicious dark chocolate donuts to satisfy my cravings and please all the other people in my house who love baked goods. It’s a cold day today, so cranking up my oven and baking is always something I enjoy doing to warm our bellies and our home. It’s a win-win.

Ingredients for the donuts:
- 4 eggs room temperature
- 1/4 cup organic coconut oil melted and cooled to almost room temp.
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup or date syrup
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 4 1/2 tbsp coconut flour
- 2 tbsp tapioca flour
- 1/4 cup raw cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- Pinch of Himalayan or sea salt

For the glaze:
- 1/4 cup unsalted grassfed butter
- 2 tbsp raw cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp pure maple syrup or date syrup
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate nibs or discs
- Optional – Sprinkles or organic shredded coconut

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350⁰. Mix together dry ingredients in KitchenAid stand mixer or with a hand-held mixer. In a separate bowl, combine wet ingredients. Pour wet into dry and incorporate until all ingredients are fully blended. Pour batter into two greased (with coconut oil or butter) donut pans. Bake 18-20 minutes (or until toothpick comes out clean). Transfer to wire cooking rack. While donuts cool, prepare glaze on the stovetop in a pan by stirring all ingredients and melting down until smooth. Spoon over glaze and sprinkle with desired toppings and enjoy!

This recipe makes 12 donuts – you could easily double it for a crowd. Donuts should keep for a few days in the fridge, but I doubt you’ll have any left!
