I’m all about saving money whenever possible. When it comes to feeding my family, our current economy is making that not so easy. But I’m still making an effort to try to save as much as I can by bulk planning and shopping sale items or with digital coupons.

I enjoy the ease of ordering through Imperfect. I put together my shopping list online or on their app, they box everything up and deliver it straight to my door! I buy a lot of my grass-fed beef, and free-range chicken from them as well as discounted fruits and veggies. I average $60 a week for a family of 5 shopping from them. I also love that I’m saving food from being discarded because of slight imperfections or product label changes.

Ibotta is one of the apps I use to save on certain items, specifically snacks and some body care items. You click on what store you’re shopping, click on the deal + after you’ve shopped, you snap a pic of your receipt. You can also use it for online shopping. I love their BOGO coupons + sometimes you can even get products completely free! Once you’ve accumulated a certain amount of savings (I believe it’s $20) you can transfer the amount to your bank account or redeem it for a gift card through Ibotta.

I also love using the H-E-B app to help me organize my shopping list, clip coupons and plan my meals according to what’s on sale. It seriously makes shopping a breeze and helps me stick to my list and keep within my budget.

Bulk buying also helps keep me stocked up and not needing to run to the store constantly.

I currently prefer to shop at Sam’s Club because of the ease of their Scan and Go checkout on their app, making it quick to get through my shopping and not having to deal with crazy checkout lines.

Here’s an example of what a meal plan might look like. I try to plan meals for two weeks out, but sometimes we have a ton of leftovers from the week before and I don’t need to plan as much.

I’m trying to get my budget lower, but this is what I currently average for a family of 5 and this includes home items like toilet paper, soap, etc. It’s currently Winter and my garden is mostly producing kale, broccoli and herbs, but once it’s Spring I’m hoping my produce purchases are less. I’m also trying to make more of our baked goods from scratch which really helps our budget.

I hope some of these tips help you save a bit in your shopping experience.
