Christmas Decor Updates

Christmas is undoubtedly my favorite holiday. I love the decor, I love the merriment, and the other day my middle said, “I like Christmas music because it gives the feeling of nostalgia and no other holiday music does that.” Tug at my heartstrings!

With this being said, yes I have accumulated a lot of different decorations throughout the years because I do enjoy changing the theme every year. That’s not to say I don’t use a lot of the same ornaments and decor, but I do have them categorized and stored by colors or themes, and I do admit I have quite a large amount of storage bins filled to the brim. Whoopsies!

Well, to my husband’s delight, I did bag up and donate a fair amount of ornaments and decor that I just don’t think I will ever use again.

I wanted these to be a little less shiny and have a more patina look – I used Ebony + Pewter Rub’n Buff

While going through items to donate, I did see some potential in a few things that I could update a bit and continue to use.

I did also find some 50% off decor at Savers Thrift that I just couldn’t pass up because I saw the potential I could use them for.

With some paint and a little Pinterest art inspiration… Voila! New painted ornaments for our tree. Just $1.24 for all 5 and some paint I already had at home.

This wreath needed a little help as well, but for $1.49 I couldn’t pass it up, and had to save it!

I had some floral pieces from past projects set aside, and just enough to fill in the empty areas of this wreath with a little hot glue.

It now hangs above our little DIY Christmas Village.

I also had enough extra pieces of greenery to add some to this sparse Dollar Tree garland along with some small ornaments, bells + ribbon.

I found another wreath at the thrift store with a beautiful ceramic Christmas village collection.

The ceramics made this wreath super heavy, so I’ve incorporated the pieces into my Christmas village display where they belong.

During end-of-season clearance I was able to collect cute wooden Christmas houses and pipe cleaner trees. I repurposed some cardstock and fuzzy fake snow by hot gluing individual “islands” of snow-surrounded homes with trees. I then glued those to the branches of the wreath.

It’s such a fun statement piece to welcome people to our home during the Christmas season.

Little wood bead ornaments with simple craft string are perfect for dropping Pine essential oil to keep the Christmas scent flowing in our home.

If you have access to free wood or old cabinet pieces, you can transform them into holiday artwork with a little paint or some fun Dollar Tree finds.

My husband built me this blanket ladder from scrap wood. I like to add seasonal blankets found at thrift stores + look at these rustic bells purchased under $10 at Walmart.

You can also get the kids involved and make fun ornaments like these little reindeer balls.

Table centerpiece using a thrifted chalkboard turned tray, some clearance greenery + candles I found 50% off at Pop Shelf.

I hope these projects give you a boost of holiday inspiration, or at least get you in the merry spirit.
