San Antonio

We enjoy taking day trips to hang out in the San Antonio area, and we’re still exploring new-to-us sights. Here are some places we have visited as a family and thoroughly enjoyed.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas is always a highlight of visiting. If you have adventurous thrill seekers like we do, it’s the place to be!

The Witte Museum, a Smithsonian Affiliate, is a wonderful museum showcasing South Texas history, culture, and natural science. It also rotates through special exhibits such as what we patroned, The Secret World Inside You, and community events like the Witte 5k Dino Dash.

“There’s no basement at the Alamo,” is something we’ve all heard told about this iconic landmark thanks to Pee Wee Herman many years ago. While that statement still echoes today, it’s only partially true. There is no single basement at the Alamo, there’s actually TWO! Find out other interesting facts and clear up any fiction on a visit to this historically picturesque place. Enjoy a stroll along the nearby River Walk or even hitch a ride on one of the boat tours. There are also plenty of places to eat along the River, and in my opinion it’s prettiest at night when it’s all lit up.

While wandering around downtown, you can pop in to the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum to see some oddities and other memorabilia.

The San Antonio Zoo is home to many different species of wildlife. With so many events occurring throughout the year, there’s something fun for every animal lover at this zoo!

The Tea Garden is within walking distance of the Zoo, located in Brackenridge Park. This lovely outdoor venue is a beautiful place to stop and bless your senses. Enjoy viewing the scenery of multiple koi ponds, walk up, down and around the winding pathways and soak in the sounds of the peaceful waterfall. And best of all, it’s free to the public.

Get free access to many of these venues and much more with the POGO Pass.
