Ultra Soothing Vanilla Mint Lip Balm

Years ago I made this simple Vanilla Mint Lip Balm to gift to friends and family (and made myself some tins also). In the last few years I’ve come to know the great moisturizing benefits of Tallow.

I’ve incorporated it in my homemade skincare since it’s known to soothe, strengthen, and soften skin. Tallow is rich in vitamins A, D, K, and E, making it super beneficial for our skin + lips. So why not add it to my DIY lip balm as well. I like to make a batch to fill multiple tins so everyone in the house can have their own, plus we can have some set aside once they run out.

Ingredients:

1/2 Cup Coconut Oil
1/4  Cup Beef Tallow
4 Tablespoons Beeswax
2 Tablespoons Pure Vanilla Extract
10-15 drops Spearmint Essential Oil

Directions:

Melt beeswax, coconut oil and tallow in a double boiler on the stove. Allow to sit on warm, stirring occasionally until all the beeswax is melted and the oils are combined.

Once the mixture is completely melted, add in the vanilla extract and spearmint essential oil. Mix with a spoon and pour into tins.

Allow to cool approximately 2-4 hours or until hardened. You can speed up this process by allowing them to sit for an hour at room temperature, then transferring tins to the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

The above recipe will fill approximately 6 tins, but I prefer to bulk up my supply and have extras as backup, so I double the recipe.
